Here we introduce a new style for us - a pair of long, lovely chandelier "duster" earrings. These feature gorgeous marbled green faceted grossular garnet (aka "African jade") rondelles and creamy, rare Peruvian green opals. They are wrapped in 14 K gold-filled wire and are suspended on gorgeous 18 K gold-filled chain. They are a full 4 1/2 inches, long enough to "dust" your shoulders! They are hung from gold-filled clamshell earwires.

"African jade" is mined in the reaches of Africa, and for this reason gets its name. It is not a real jade, but actually an opaque grossular garnet that resembles jade. Grossular garnet is a silicate of calcium and aluminum.

Garnet has been used for thousands of years to strengthen one's physical and psychic vitality, aiding in shielding the aura of the wearer against ill or ill-will. A lovely semi-precious stone of constancy, honor and courage, it has been used as a talisman by everyone from warriors to wise women. Although we are most familiar with the deep red garnets, the greens bring a similar base energy, while adding the energies of the heart chakra.

Manifesting in the greens of the Heart chakra, these "African jade" or grossular garnets bring the gift of ease both within one's own heart as well as in greeting the hearts of others. Its color links it with the throat chakra, aiding in communication between friends or lovers.

Opal is said to bring inspiration and imagination. Opal augments memory, is a very spiritual stone, and can help bring happy dreams. For those of us who resist change, it can ease the trauma of metamorphosis.
