When we found these faceted teardrops in deep teal apatite, we were so excited. They are such a deep teal that their color is hard to capture on camera. We used them as the focus for this pair of chandelier earrings. We added small ovals of apatite and larger ovals of a blue-green kyanite. Pretty Bali silver chandelier findings and large pumpkin rondelles in Bali silver finish the pair. They hang 3 inches below the sterling silver earwires. As with all of our earrings, these come in ziplock bags to keep tarnish away and have clear soft rubber earnuts to keep them securely in place.

One gemological source on apatite notes that a joke should be construed from the fact that apatite is a phosphorus-bearing mineral in teeth. It is a rather humorous finding.

As it is a very soft stone (5 on the Moh's scale), apatite is rarely used in jewelry unless the stones are kept separated from other stones it's worked with and that the piece/s be kept in a ziplock bag, away from other creations.

There are three major varieties of apatite and quite a few minor. A clear green apatite is known as asparagus stone; 2) Chatoyant stones (rutile growing in the apatite gives it a cat's eye appearance, therefore it's called cat's eye apatite; 3) blue apatite is called moroxite. Aside from these we find apatite in almost every color. The blue is considered the most precious and is deliciously beautiful in person.

Because of its connection with bone and teeth, one may assume symbolism which has to do with the planet Saturn, which rules bone. In addition, Saturn rules the building-up of matter, hence apatite is connected with that process as well. The colors, though, bring out some aptly different perceptions.

It is used as a general healing stone, but also for the mouth in particular. Saturn rules wisdom, so attaining wisdom and knowledge are connected with apatite. Working with the stone aids one in feeling more comfortable in groups of people for those who are shy, assists the ill-tempered in gaining calm and ease, and also helps one to reach meditative states more easily. Apatite is a lovely stone! Care for it gently and it will impart its gifts just as gently!

Kyanite is one of the most beautiful stones of this new aeon, with its color-changing pleochroism. It ranges from deep blue (from the Greek: kyanos, meaning blue) to iridescent aqua-tinged clear.
