Over the last 10 or so years I have bought and sold thousands of pieces of glass. This little bottle is called a "Dosing Bottle". I believe it was used to hold a lady's medicine or perhaps a little bit of alcohol. The small size was easily slipped into a handbag, which were at that time quite dainty in size. Though unmarked, I'm certain the top is Sterling. The top is fitted to the bottle and the lid is hinged. And now for the glass ...... The purple color is more beautiful than words can describe, and it was hand cut to perfection with a different pattern on the back and the front. There is also a pattern cut on the sides and on the bottom. Every cut was very skillfully done and every cut is highly polished. It measures, including the silver top, 2 5/8 inches tall by 1 1/2 inch wide. If you look at my photographs below, you will see that when the bottle is laying on its front or back, the bottle itself is curved. I mentioned that I have bought and sold thousands of pieces of glass, yet none have compared in my eye to this. Yes, it has several very tiny flea bites, as would be expected, due to it's age. This is a vintage "Dosing Bottle" from the early to mid 1800's. It is an extremely rare find and it is glorious in it's beauty!
