True Antique & Collectible Lover's Heaven where ALL Major Credit Cards are always accepted!
From my personal collection of Art Deco style purses, I am excited to offer my customers a Whiting Davis Enameled Mesh Bag. This is an absolutely gorgeous vintage metal mesh purse! The purse is in like new condition and was probably never carried very much at all by the original owner! The geometric design on this nice example dates it closer to the Deco Era but prior to 1925, when the dangling tags were no longer used.
Outstanding geometry and vibrant and unique coloration combinations make this Whiting & Davis Art Deco Style Enamel mesh bag a special treat. The unusual color scheme and Art Deco style geometry add to its rarity and desirability. The intricate geometric design is rendered in several tones; from black diamonds displayed on a pale yellow cream body with lime green and robins egg blue squares inside the black diamonds with yet a touch of pink enameling here and there. The enameling is in outstanding condition on the mesh body. It is very hard to see, but there are a few mesh squares that have been rubbed by the frame at the bottom of the frame connection. Not obvious at all! In fact, I had this bag for almost 6 months before I ever even noticed it! Very slight.
Silver frame is engraved in a lovely rose and tendril pattern. The Whiting & Davis hang tag is present. The inside of the bag is unlined. The frame is free from marks and discolorations and is strong and sturdy. The purse closes with an accordion style clasp. The frame shows a little expected use wear on the inside, but is otherwise fine. It measures 4 inches wide across the frame by 7 inches long, not including the twisted loop chain; with the chain being held, it is 12 inches long. There is some tarnishing on the framework as well as the chain, but I have not cleaned it, as I like the patina on my collections. The purse is well attached all around the frame, there are no gaps in the links or at the hinge areas and the interior is unlined.
It is definitely top of the line and the pattern is unlike any I have seen! This mesh bag is a must have for the serious collector of Whiting Davis!
A little history on the company- The first mesh bag came out in 1892, by the Whiting and Davis Company, located in Plainville, Massachusetts is the Oldest Purse Company in the USA. Whiting & Davis began as a jewelry firm in 1876. They are still producing purses today as well as many other quality items.
This is a beautiful purse from the past. I darkened some of the pictures to show the contrast detail.
This highly collectible and stunning Art Deco style Mesh Purse will be Tough for me to Part With!
